Infrared Observations of Large Amplitude Pulsating Stars

چکیده

Our understanding of large amplitude pulsating stars and their status in stellar evolution is briefly reviewed. The paper then describes the near-infrared light curves of various asymptotic giant branch stars, concentrating on possible evidence for changing mass-loss rates. The stars discussed include oxygenand carbon-rich Miras, OH/IR stars, thick-shelled carbon stars and symbiotic Miras. Finally a newly discovered Mira variable in the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy is described.

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I

We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

SAGE-Var: An Infrared Survey of Variability in the Magellanic Clouds

We present the first results from the SAGE-Var program, a follow on to the Spitzer legacy program Surveying the Agents of Galaxy Evolution (SAGE; Meixner et al. 2006). We obtained 4 epochs of photometry at 3.6 & 4.5μm covering the bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and the central region of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) in order to probe the variability of extremely red sources missed b...

Observations of Pulsating Stars

Pulsations discussed will begin at the “top” of the instability strip with pulsating red giants and Miras, which are evolved stars nearing their own demise. The next discussed will be the Cepheids, both the “Classical” ones as well as the W Virginis (Population II stars). While moving down the instability strip of the HR Diagram, the next major type of variable (pulsating) star are the RR Lyrae...

HD 42927 and HD 126341 : two pulsating B stars surrounded by circumstellar dust ?

We have performed an infrared study of pulsating B stars. The main conclusion is that none of the 163 (non-)radial pulsators shows an IR excess flux due to free-free emission, despite the fact that the sample contains several rapid rotators. Two β Cep stars and two slowly pulsating B stars do exhibit an unexpected infrared colour excess at 12 μm. The small IR excess of the B 2 IV β Cep star HD ...

Non - adiabatic theoretical observables in δ Scuti stars

Phase differences and amplitude ratios at different colour photometric bands are currently being used to discriminate pulsation modes in order to facilitate mode identification of κ-driven non-radial pulsating stars. In addition to physical inputs (e.g., mass, T e f f , etc.), these quantities depend on the non-adiabatic treatment of the atmosphere. This paper presents theoretical results conce...
